San Antonio hosts the world’s largest breast cancer research meeting in December

The San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) returns to San Antonio, Texas, from 8 to 11 December 2026. It is the largest breast-cancer-specific meeting in the world: every year it gathers more than 11,000 physicians, researchers, clinicians and patient advocates from over 100 countries.

What the SABCS is

Unlike general oncology congresses, the SABCS is devoted entirely to breast cancer. That makes it the place where the year’s most relevant randomised trials and translational data are presented, and where the international community discusses how to move them into clinical practice.

What will be discussed

The programme combines plenary sessions with clinical trial presentations, translational research on tumour biology and biomarkers, and sessions on diagnosis, surgery, radiotherapy, systemic therapy, metastatic disease and survivorship. There is also room for research on the patient experience itself and for advocate training.

Registration and key dates

  • 2 November 2026: advance registration deadline.
  • 7 December 2026: onsite registration opens.
  • 30 October: abstract titles and the symposium planner are released online.
  • 23 November: full abstract text released.
  • 30 November: housing closes.

Registration is handled on the official website, where the full programme and accommodation information are published.

Why it matters

Many of the changes that later reach breast unit clinics are presented here first. In addition, abstracts are released in the open a few days before the symposium, so patients and associations can see the results at the same time as the professional community.
